DAWN VICK HANSEN

Elkhorn, Wisconsin
Toy Group

Dawn Vick HansenThe sport of purebred dogs has been a lifelong journey for Dawn Vick Hansen. Nearly 60 years ago, she made her first appearance in the ring at the International Kennel Club show in Chicago with a Pekingese puppy in the Children's Handling Class (now known as Junior Handling). She says now that it was inevitable that this love affair would develop into a total commitment.

Brussels Griffons first captured her heart in the 1940s. It was then that she traveled to England with plans to bring home a Pekingese show prospect, but somehow came back with a Brussels Griffon instead. Eventually she created a successful breeding program with her Brussels Griffons that produced several Best In Show champions carrying her Wil-Daw-Cy banner. An interest in obedience has also produced many dual champions.

Her commitment to the breed is also evident in her service with the parent club, the American Brussels Griffon Association, where she has held various offices during her many years as a member, including President and chair of the Breed Standard Committee.

Dawn was first licensed to judge two toy breeds 35 years ago, and she has expanded her judging to include all Working, Terrier, Toy and Non-Sporting breeds. Judging assignments have taken her all over the mainland United States, Hawaii, Alaska, Ireland and South Africa.
