JEANNETTE McGINNIS

Upland, California
Junior Showmanship Finals

Jeannette McGinnisJeannette McGinnis doesn't remember a time in her life that she did not have a dog. Her first purebred was a Rough Collie, and later she had a number of other breeds, but her primary breeds were Springers and Pembroke Welsh Corgis.

She started showing her own dogs in 1962. When a certain professional handler kept beating her, she hired him to handle her dogs. Eventually, she married the handler, Ray McGinnis, and together they showed dogs professionally for the next 17 years. They had a number of top-winning dogs: Ch. Guys 'N Dolls Annie O'Brien, the top-winning English Setter bitch in the 1970's; Ch. Aspengrove's Dubonnet, the first Springer bitch in the history of the breed to win a National Specialty; and the top Herding dog in the first year of the Group, Ch. Vanguard's Jenelle, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi bitch.

Jeannette and Ray retired from handling in 1988 and began judging in 1989. She progressed quickly, and is now licensed to judge the Sporting Group, the Hound Group and Best In Show, as well as Junior Showmanship.

Jeannette has judged a number of breeds previously at Westminster, as well as The American Spaniel Club and the World Series of Junior Showmanship. She has also judged in Mexico City, Costa Rica, and Australia.

She has been a member of Orange Empire Dog Club, Gateways English Springer Dog Club and the San Mateo Dog Club.
