ELLIOTT B. WEISS

Eagle, Idaho
Terrier Group

Elliott WeissThe very first dog show Elliott Weiss ever attended was the 1956 Westminster Kennel Club and it was love at first sight. Eventually, in 1963, he exhibited a dog here for the first time, in what was to become the beginning of a life in dogs. Elliott worked as an apprentice handler to the late Ted Young Jr. from 1965 through 1968 and became a licensed professional handler in 1969.

His first group judging assignment at Westminster in 2004 comes on the 20th anniversary of his handling an Irish Setter named Ch. Meadowlark's Anticipation to a win in the Sporting Group at the Garden.

In a 1985 magazine poll, the fancy voted Elliott among the top ten handlers at that time, and he showed dogs professionally till the summer of 1993. Among his accomplishments in dogs, he was one of the organizers and founding president of the Monticello (NY) Kennel Club.

During his life in dogs he has owned and bred Cocker Spaniels, Clumber Spaniels, Giant Schnauzers, Pointers and English Setters. Elliott started judging in 1994 and is currently approved to judge the Sporting Group, Hound Group, Terrier Group, Poodles, Giant Schnauzers, Bouviers des Flandres and Japanese Chins.

Elliott Weiss grew up in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. He and his wife Debi (Dr. Debra J. Mack DVM) now live in Eagle, Idaho, where they own, exhibit and occasionally breed English Setters under the Wyndswept prefix.
