DOROTHY N. COLLIER

Wellington, Florida
Herding Group

Dorothy N. CollierDorothy Collier knows well the special place of the Westminster Kennel Club in the world of dogs and in the culture and history of New York City.

A native New Yorker, born and raised in Greenwich Village, Mrs. Collier was honored as the Best In Show judge at Westminster in 1997 and has previously judged the Working Group on two occasions (1994 and 2000).

Involved in the sport of purebred dogs for over 40 years, her first breeds included a Maltese, Old English Sheepdogs, Dobermans and a Pointer. In 1969 she acquired her first Komondor. Over the next 15 years, her Summithill Kennels produced four BIS winners, specialty winners, top producers and 25 champions; she bred or owned every one of the top-ranked Komondors in the country from 1974 to 1984, rightfully earning her a position as an expert in the breed.

Many of today's Komondors go back to her original stock, even though she stopped her breeding program in 1982 when she became an AKC approved judge. Today she is licensed to judge the Working Group and the Herding Group, and has officiated at shows all over the world.

She is a past president and officer of the Komondor Club of America, and is a member of Ladies Dog Club, Morris and Essex Kennel Club, Tuxedo Park Kennel Club, and the Palm Beach County Dog Fanciers. She is also on the Board of the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League of the Palm Beaches.

For more than ten years, Mrs. Collier has been a trustee and chairman of the Assistance Administration Committee for Take The Lead, helping people in the sport of dogs to battle life-threatening and financially devastating medical challenges.

Mrs. Collier's husband, Chet, is a longtime member of Westminster, having served as show chairman from 1978-1989 and as president from 1990-2001.
