125 YEARS OF MADISON SQUARE GARDEN: WESTMINSTER WAS THERE FROM THE BEGINNING

In early June, the New York Daily News produced a special insert in honor of Madison Square Garden's 125 years as a part of the history of New York.

As one of the few tenants to have been staged in every single version of the Garden, the Westminster Kennel Club was a big part of the story. In fact, Westminster held its first show in 1877, two years before the very first Madison Square Garden opened its doors.

Choosing the greatest moments in Madison Square Garden's 125-year history, the editors write, is kind of like deciding which is best - Sparks or Peter Luger's, MOMA or the Met, Mays or Mantle? You really can't go wrong no matter which you choose - and it's a lot of fun getting there.

Would you pick Al-Frazier I? II? Willis Reed's dramatic entrance into Game 7 of the 1970 NBA Finals? The Rangers' Stanley Cup Victory in '94, their first in 54 years? How about a moment from almost 100 years ago, when a smooth Fox Terrier named Warren Remedy took the first of three straight Best of Show titles at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show's seminal event?

The answer is: all of the above.

Inside is a two-page spread with photos and story, highlighted by the following passage:

"... the relationship between Madison Square Garden and the Westminster Kennel Club has produced a memorable annual event, marrying the elegance, grace and beauty of the world's greatest purebred dogs with the aura of the world's most prestigious venue."
