 NY BUSINESS MAGAZINE NAMES WESTMINSTER ONE OF NEW YORK'S TOP 100 EVENTS  A New York business magazine has named The Westminster Kennel Club Annual Dog Show at Madison Square Garden as one of New York's Top 100 events. "Biz Bash" editors placed Westminster as #7 on the list of sports events, as they ranked "the most important trade shows, fund-raisers, parades, sporting events and more across 14 major industries based on their economic significance for the city, attendance, impact on their industries, media lure and more." Here is what the editors had to say about the world's greatest dog show: "THE SCOOP: OK, it's not exactly a sport, but the 128th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show honors perfect pooches from around the world ... The show's limit was filled in less than an hour after the entries opened ... BEHIND THE SCENES: This year, for the first time ever, the Empire State Building honored the event by lighting up in purple and gold - Westminster's official colors - during the two days of the show." It's a nice honor, as the editors point out, considering "...the breadth of interesting, influential things that happen here in New York. This is the capital of the world, the center of many influential industries and a hotbed of creativity and innovation." The top six sports events selected by the magazine were the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament, the New York City Marathon, the Belmont Stakes, the New York City Cycling Championship, the Heisman Trophy Award ceremony, and the Millrose Games. |
