A RECORD-SETTING WKC 129

A sold out Madison Square Garden for the first time in Westminster history, more than a million streams of Westminster breed judging highlights on the Internet, higher ratings on USA Network, an NBC special on the Sunday following the show, a record-setting media tour the day after the show ... all of these contributed to an amazing Westminster in 2005, reaffirming its status as America's Dog Show.

Madison Square Garden sold out: For the first time in its 129-year history, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was sold out. Seating capacity at the Garden for the dog show is 18,200 each day. That number does not include the 2,500 exhibitor passes issued.

One million streams: Westminster's breed judging highlights presented on streaming video on the Westminster web site has proven to be phenomenally popular with hits for more than 1.3 million streams. Westminster set all kinds of records for its web site - nearly twice as many unique visitors as in previous years, visitors from over 130 countries, with nearly 15 million page views.

Westminster, USA Network extend contract through 2016: The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which has been televised since 1948, and USA Network, its partner for the past 22 years, have extended their television partnership through 2016.

Westminster ratings tell a good story: The telecast of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show On USA Network experienced a slight increase over 2004, ranking #1 in the key marketing demographics of Adults 25-54 and Women 25-54. Westminster averaged a 2.9 rating, peaking at a 4.0 rating in the final quarter hour on Tuesday night.

Sunday ratings, too: NBC's presentation of Winners of Westminster, presented by Pedigree, a one hour special on Sunday afternoon following the show, enjoyed a 2.2 rating, highly respectable for a Sunday afternoon.

Media on hand: Westminster issued media credentials to nearly 700 members of the press, representing 20 different countries and nearly 40 states. Some of the media on hand included The New York Times, Time, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, Newsweek, Scholastic, O Magazine, Seventeen, Glamour, Variety, Life, NPR, all major TV networks, CNN, CNBC, AOL, Fox News, AP, UPI, Reuters, USA Today, USA Weekend, MSNBC, Extra!, Time for Kids, Telemundo, Family Circle, and many, many more.

Wednesday media tour: On the day following the show, Best In Show winner Carlee and handler Michelle Ostermiller went on a whirlwind media tour. For the first time ever, the Best In Show winner appeared on all three network morning talk shows: Today (NBC), Good Morning America (ABC), and The Early Show (CBS). Other stops on the tour included CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Entertainment Tonight, and Late Night with David Letterman. They were also part of a live satellite television tour visiting 18 different markets, one at a time. LIFE magazine cover feature: Carlee's media tour was the cover feature story for Life magazine's March 11 issue.

Glamour Magazine makeovers: Glamour Magazine did professional makeovers (hair, makeup, wardrobe) of five different handlers at Westminster, resulting in a magazine photo feature (Glamour, May 2005) and a piece on NBC's Today Show.

USA Weekend contest draws huge entry: More than 24,000 entries were received by USA Weekend magazine for a drawing for a trip to Westminster. Julian Pike of Savanna, GA won the drawing and brought his wife, Judith and their friends Susie Child and Anita McKenzie.

Back home in Colorado: Following her big win, Carlee (along with her owners Dick and Linda Stark, and her handler, Michelle Ostermiller) was honored in her home state of Colorado with a media tour and a special presentation during a Denver Nuggets game in March. Then, in April, Carlee was a special guest and the recipient of special proclamations on the floor of the State House and the State Senate, and also enjoyed a private audience with Governor Bill Owens.
