Westminster KC Helps
Brooklyn School Program
The Westminster Kennel Club recently helped Brooklyn School for Global Studies celebrate its (Wo)Man's Best Friend Apprenticeship for its students.
Students competed in AKC rally competition with dogs provided by community volunteers, learning communication and a sense of teamwork between the dogs and handlers. The volunteers were American Kennel Club Canine Ambassadors: Labrador breeder Micki Beerman, Pomeranian breeder Elaine Wishnow and Edy Makariw. The AKC Canine Ambassadors program is part of the public education program of the AKC. Westminster's David Frei spoke at the graduation and helped present the awards.
Students and the dogs (provided by the volunteers): Yasmine Binet and Meg, Otis Burgos and B'Lana, Tahiry Guervara and Abigale, Anthony Green and Sadie, Cristal Hernandez and Bella, Shamor Mathis and Abigale, Miguelina Ortega and Annie, Bobbie Smith and Annie. The apprenticeship was taught by Teaching Fellow Sam Crick.
