The Westminster Kennel Foundation has awarded veterinary school scholarships to worthy students every year since 1990. In 22 years, the Foundation has provided a total of 127 annual scholarships at certain qualified veterinary schools valued at over $1 million. The six recipients selected by the schools for 2011-2012 Westminster Kennel Foundation awards are Benjamin March, Cornell University; Melissa Davis, Michigan State University; Melissa Yu, Tufts University; Jared Pitt, Tuskegee University; Dustin Noack, University of California-Davis; and Steve Fernandez, University of Pennsylvania.

The Foundation was established in 1971 as an independent, charitable organization dedicated to developing knowledge and understanding of the dog -- its history, its variety, its uses and contributions and its proper care. Funding for the foundation comes from major annual grants from the Westminster Kennel Club, plus individual gifts from founding members and other individuals.
