FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WESTMINSTER TO HOST AKC MEET THE BREEDS(r) ON WESTMINSTER WEEKEND IN 2015
New York, NY (April 24, 2014) - The Westminster Kennel Club and American Kennel Club today announced the next AKC Meet the Breeds(r) in New York City will be hosted by Westminster in conjunction with its Masters Agility Championship on Saturday, February 14th, 2015 at Pier 92 in NYC.
Once again expanding the activities of its famous Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, Westminster will host the popular, hands-on AKC Meet the Breeds(r) event for the first time, simultaneous and in adjoining space with Westminster's Agility Championship, which will take place at Pier 94.
"We are pleased to add another educational element to our activities for the dog-loving public," said Westminster President Seán W. McCarthy. "This gives the public the chance, in the same location, on the same day, to learn about a number of breeds as well as the chance to view the talented, athletic dogs - including mixed breeds - competing in the Masters Agility Championship. This is a wonderful lead-in to our dog show on Monday and Tuesday, with all the greatest show dogs competing as they have since our very first show in 1877."
In its sixth year, AKC Meet the Breeds(r) will offer attendees the unique chance to meet and play with hundreds of different dog breeds, all while learning about responsible pet ownership and what breed is right for their lifestyle.
"The American Kennel Club is excited that we'll be able to continue to grow our dog-loving audience by combining these two great events from New York's most recognized canine organizations," said Dennis Sprung, President and CEO of the American Kennel Club. "In addition to enjoying the 2nd Masters Agility Championship, visitors will be able to enjoy decorated booths, play with dogs and puppies of more than 100 AKC breeds and chat about responsible dog ownership and finding the right breed for their lifestyle with our dedicated club volunteers."
For AKC Meet the Breeds(r) club participants, Pier 92 offers covered unloading, a huge service elevator and reasonable roof top parking for 300 vehicles during this single-day event.
The inaugural Westminster Masters Agility Championship debuted earlier this year on the Saturday before Westminster's all breed dog show. The club's 139th Annual All Breed Dog Show will take place at both Pier 92 and 94 (where they moved in 2013) on Monday and Tuesday, February 16th - 17th, with evening finals once again to be staged at Madison Square Garden each of those nights.
