BRIARD

The Briard is an ancient breed of France and for centuries has been an independent flock guardian and sheep herding dog. Reported to be owned by Napoleon and brought to the U.S. by Thomas Jefferson, the Briard was the official dog of the French Army. Distinguishing characteristics include a large head, long wavy coat, double dew claws on each rear leg, and a crook at the end of the tail. His intelligence, loyalty, strength, agility, power and flexibility allow him to keep on the move for long hours as he keeps his flock within the boundaries of his gaze.
