PYRENEAN SHEPHERD

Pyrenean Shepherds come in two varieties: Smooth-Faced dogs have short hair on the face; Rough-Faced have shaggy hair on their faces and range from scruffy "demi-longs" to longhaired dogs. The 'Pyr Shep' is not a farm dog but a wilderness herder, working far from roads or cropland. It is said: "Nature created this breed. He was made by the mountains and the winds." Moving sheep from valley to valley, human shepherd and his little canine companion were watched over by Great Pyrenees -who fended off predators so the Pyr Sheps could herd. These little dogs are superb athletes who excel at dog sports, especially agility.
