BASENJI
The Basenji, a small, sleek, curly-tailed African hunting dog, was introduced to the West in the 1930s. However, the breed is an ancient one -- Basenji images appear on the walls of Egyptian pyramids. Although known as the barkless dog, he is not mute. He can make a variety of sounds, including chortles and yodels, and even the occasional warning bark. Mischievous, intelligent, with a will of his own, the Basenji is not for everyone, but his charm captures the hearts of this breed's devotees.
