WEIMARANER

Weimaraners were bred in Germany by the noblemen of the Court of Weimar to be personal hunting companions. They hunted mostly large game. When the land holdings diminished, pointing dog stock was introduced and they evolved into bird dogs while maintaining a strong prey drive for furred game and the ability to track wounded game on land and water. Although not necessarily a big running field dog, they excel in finding and retrieving birds with their keen scenting ability, desire, and ground-covering search pattern. The Weimaraner is a versatile hunting companion with strong character whose working abilities should be promoted and maintained.
