YORKSHIRE TERRIER

The Yorkshire Terrier roots are the terriers of Scotland and Northern England. Recognized as distinct breed by 1870, as a Yorkshire Terrier by 1874 and first exhibited at Westminster in 1877. The Yorkie retains its terrier and companion traits, participating in conformation, agility, obedience, rally, and tracking. This versatile breed is now approved to compete in earth dog competition. Today's Yorkie has no size or color varieties, yet retains its' hallmark of an ideal dark blue silk body coat with high head carriage in shaded golden tan; the breed continues to give off the air of self-importance of a toy-terrier.
