Founded in 1935, The Dog Writers Association of America historically has held its annual meeting the weekend before the Westminster Kennel Club show. Despite the localized name, about 600 creative writers, editors, publishers, artists and photographers around the world belong to the organization. The organization's newsletter, The Write Dog, gives writing tips and keeps members informed of activities. DWAA's annual writing competition culminates at the awards banquet held on Westminster Eve when talented winners are presented with a Maxwell medallion, named for its late renowned member and President, Maxwell Riddle. DWAA joins with the Cat Writers Assn. to co-sponsor annual writing seminars. For more information on DWAA, see www.DWAA.org.
