MRS. BETTY McDONNELL OF MAHWAH, NEW JERSEY began obedience as a teenager, earning an AKC Companion Dog title on a German Shepherd Dog in 1951. In 1964, her family was introduced to Newfoundlands. Since then, Mrs. McDonnell has been an owner/breeder/handler and trainer on all her dogs, which have been honored as top producers in the breed since the early 1980s. Newfoundlands from her Kilyka kennel have won national specialties, bests in show, as well as excelling in obedience, water rescue, and drafting sports. In 2000, Mrs. McDonnell began the transition to Norwich Terriers. Her champion Norwich are also trained obedience and agility dogs. She has judged Newfoundlands and junior showmanship since 1996, judging the Newfoundland national specialty twice, and specialty shows in nine European countries. Mrs. McDonnell started judging Norwich Terriers in 2016. This is her first judging assignment at Westminster.
