Herding Group Judge

Robert Smith started in dogs in 1960 showing German Shepherd Dogs. Later, with his wife, Polly, Dr. Smith bred three generations of breeder/owner/handled Best In Show and five generations of group-winning American Foxhounds under the kennel name Hazira. As an owner/handler Dr. Smith had the top winning American Foxhound for seven years.

He began judging in 1969 and became an all-breed judge in 1996. Dr. Smith has judged in every state in the United States and abroad on five continents. He earned his BA degree from the University of Virginia and a doctorate from Vanderbilt University.  He taught college for 12 years and then went into the field of economic development. Dr. Smith and his wife have given seminars and written extensively on the American Foxhound. This is his fourth Westminster assignment.
