Westminster's 2006 artist
Artist Bart Forbes has been capturing the essence of sport on canvas for over 30 years. Recently selected as the official artist for the 2005 Kentucky Derby, his countless commissions have also included paintings for the Indianapolis 500, Americas Cup and the Boston Marathon, as well as the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games.
Forbes' many paintings for the PGA tour have included Pebble Beach, The Players Championship, the Byron Nelson Classic and the Ryder Cup. He has also created numerous paintings for Arnold Palmer's course design company. Forbes' talents have also been displayed on 19 postage stamps for the U.S. Postal Service, and he has also created commemorative coins for the U.S. Mint.
Working in watercolor and oils, Forbes has been represented in most of America's magazines, including TIME and Sports Illustrated. His list of corporate clients is long and includes such giants as NBC, Exxon, Pepsi Cola, Eastman Kodak, Lockheed, ABC-TV, ESPN, General Electric, and the National Football League. His paintings are found in the private collections of former President George Bush, the PGA Hall of Fame, The Smithsonian Institution, the NFL, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Pat Summerall, Tiger Woods, Justin Leonard and David Duvall. He has recently completed several canvasses for the interior of the private jet of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Forbes and his wife, Mary Jo, who is a kitchen designer, live and work overlooking a golf course in Plano, TX. He has recently begun to exhibit the landscape and still life paintings that he enjoys doing for his own amusement. These oils give him an opportunity to experiment with form, texture and life, and are more abstract than the work he has become known for over the years.
