Learn About Field Trials

Born a sportsman’s organization at heart, the Westminster Kennel Club was formed to create a little friendly competition amongst gentlemen and their canine companions. Decades before there even was a dog show these sportsmen were committed to pointing breeds of dogs which is still evident today as the club’s emblem is the likeness of one of the club’s pointers named Sensation. Continuing this tradition of supporting dogs in the field, each year at the AKC Pointing Breed Championships, the Club awards the Westminster Kennel Club Cup and the Westminster Trophy to the Walking and Horseback division champions. Westminster is proud of its legacy of promoting dogs in the show ring and in the field.
