MR. JAY RICHARDSON of Elgin, Illinois began his life-long involvement in purebred dogs at the age of 10, when his parents purchased their first show dog, a Standard Poodle. His young years were involved in caring for the family’s Poodles and showing in junior showmanship and conformation. He worked for professional handlers as a teenager, and then in 1975 began what would become his own successful all-breed handling career.
Mr. Richardson started judging in 1996 and has judged in the United States, Canada, China, Taiwan, Poland, Finland, and Spain. He is approved to judge the Sporting, Working, and Terrier groups in addition to several hound, toy, and non-sporting breeds, miscellaneous breeds, Junior Showmanship, and Best in Show. This is his fifth Westminster assignment, including the Terrier Group in 2013.
