Ken Murray

MR. KEN MURRAY of ISLAND LAKE, ILLINOIS showed his first dog in 1959 at the Texas Kennel Club, which began a lifelong love of the Irish Setter breed and the sport of purebred dogs. During his teenage years growing up in Dallas, he handled and finished numerous Irish Setters for the famous Draherin Kennels and English Springer Spaniels for LeeVee Kennels. In 1968, he became a professional handler but then took the opportunity to work for the legendary Dick and Ruth Cooper. Mr. Murray won a Kennel Review Winkie® award for Best Assistant Handler. With his wife Virginia, they handled more than 300 Best in Show winners. Mr. Murray handled three consecutive Sporting group winners at Westminster. In 2005, he retired from handling to become a judge. He is licensed to judge the Sporting and Working groups, most of the Hound breeds, Junior Showmanship, and Best in Show. He has judged in China, Columbia, Japan, Mexico, and the U.S. This is his second Westminster assignment.
