PLUIS DAVERN of ROYAL OAKS, CALIFORNIA purchased her first Golden Retriever in 1967 and showed her in conformation, obedience, and field events. She went on to breed several litters of dual-purpose dogs and started training professionally in the early 1970’s. In the early 1980s, Ms. Davern became a member of the Professional Handlers Association and finished dogs in the Sporting, Hound, and Working groups. Ms. Davern started Sundowner’s Kennels in 1969 and trained her dogs for obedience, gun dog, and disaster search and rescue. She has bred and owned best in show, master hunter, obedience and agility titled Sussex Spaniels and champion and performance titled Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, German Shorthaired Pointers and Vizslas. She is approved to judge the Sporting group, nine hound breeds, best in show, junior showmanship, and hunt tests for the spaniel, retriever and pointing breeds. This is her third judging assignment for Westminster.
