Mr. Johnson of Bloomington, IN received his first American Kennel Club registered, purebred dog, a Clumber Spaniel, as a birthday present, which has led to a lifetime dedication to the sport of purebred dogs. Breeding under the world-famous Clussexx prefix, he has produced more than 250 AKC champion Clumber, Sussex, Welsh Springer and English Toy Spaniels. He has a passion for breeding dogs and continues to run a top breeding program today. Mr. Johnson has the distinct honor of being the only breeder to have produced Westminster Best in Show winners in two different breeds: in 1996, the Clumber Spaniel Ch. Clussexx Country Sunrise (‘Brady’) and in 2009 the Sussex Spaniel Ch. Clussexx Three D Grinchy Glee (‘Stump’). Stump, at 10 years of age, was the oldest dog to ever win Best in Show at Westminster. Mr. Johnson was awarded the American Kennel Club’s Sporting dog “Breeder of the Year” in 2005 and was nominated in 2017 for a Show Dogs of the Year Winkie Award for “Judge of the Year.” His breeder approach to judging has made him a popular judge with assignments all over the world. He is approved to judge the Sporting, Hound and Toy groups, Junior Showmanship and Best in Show. This is his fourth Westminster assignment including the Hound group in 2014.
