Meet the Glen of Imaal Terrier

Named for a remote valley in the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland where it was developed centuries ago, the Glen of Imaal terrier performed typical terrier functions such as ridding the farm of vermin and hunting fox and badger. It also performed a unique task as a turnspit dog, paddling a large wheel which would turn a spit over the hearth. Unrefined by fashion, the Glen still possesses the ‘antique features’ once common to many early terriers – its distinctive head with rose or half-prick ears, unique outline and topline, bowed forequarters and turned out feet are hallmarks of the breed.
