Meet the Russell Terrier

The Russell terrier is considered the ultimate working earth terrier due to their small size (10-12 inches) and unique chest. The hallmark of the breed is their small, flexible chest, which can easily span to allow them to hunt efficiently below ground. Their origin dates back to the 1800s in England where these small terriers were carried horseback in terrier bags to be utilized for the sport of fox hunting. They are predominantly white with spots and come in three haircoats: smooth, broken and rough. They are highly intelligent, fiercely loyal, and thrive in an active lifestyle.
