Saluki

History tells us salukis were filling the cooking pot for nomadic tribes long before the invention of gunpowder. Salukis appeared in Renaissance artwork, but did not become a part of the Western dog scene until after the first World War. Centuries of breeding for hunting excellence created a hound with great vision and a hardiness at odds with their graceful appearance. Today, salukis excel in coursing, conformation, and even in obedience if the spirit moves them. As companions, salukis enjoy reminding their owners which one of them has a pedigree tracing back thousands of years.
