The wirehaired pointing griffon was developed in Holland as a dog of medium size with a coarsely wirehaired coat and an excellent hunting ability. Versatile gun dogs, griffons excel in all aspects of hunting upland game birds and waterfowl. They are close-working dogs and good swimmers, and their natural hunting abilities allow them to work on land and in the water. Griffons thrive on human companionship and this makes them ideal family dogs. The griffon’s intelligence and ever-present desire to please has helped him to be successful in the show ring, in obedience, tracking, agility, and, of course, the field.
